New England Lobster Company

A little south of the San Francisco airport is where you can find the New England Lobster Company. A bit out of the way but when you’re craving a good lobster roll, you might want to make the hike. It’s not in a strip mall or near other restaurants. It’s just there, surrounded by warehouses and office buildings, ready to give you this mighty sea crustacean from the east coast. This place was a huge upgrade. I remember visiting their little food truck many years ago in a similar setting that…

宅涮涮鍋

Hot pot culture is huge in Taiwan so when you find one that stands out, you kinda want to tell the world. And that’s what I want to do with this very modest looking restaurant,宅涮涮鍋. Inside, however, the quaint little place was very nice. The decor was modern with single seating at the bar. More intimate parties of two had table seating divided by walls. Pricing isn’t too bad, though on the higher end but it shows in the food you get. As fresh as you can get for the seafood and…

Seafood in Penghu

When you’re near the docks in Magong City, you’ll find plenty of restaurants displaying tanks of fresh local seafood. It’s a fun experience to shop and discover what each place can prepare. That is of course, if you spoke Chinese. Thankfully, the group I was with had no problem and knew specific places to go to. I won’t be able to list them here, but I can give you a sample of the different foods we had. All were indeed fresh and cooked to order and much less expensive than the…

Grilling in Jogae-Gui Alley

My first trip to Seoul, Korea and one of the things I wanted try was jogae-gui, grilling clams. Yeah, sure, we all know about the grilling fun at your favorite Korean BBQ restaurant. Plates of beef, pork, chicken, and any other land animal you can think of. But this was with shellfish. And on a cold rainy day, this was utterly perfect. Jogae-Gui Alley is in Nonhyeon-Dong. As the name suggests, it’s an area popular for grilling clams. Though there’s shops serving steamed clams and other types of seafood creations. This…

Swan Oyster Depot

We thought we would be clever to hit Swan Oyster Depot on Monday, a holiday, and right when it opens, at 10:30am. Well, there were plenty of people who thought the same. Preparation got us parked and in line by 10:15, misfortune placed the cut off line for first seating right at us. That sucked. But it only took half an hour before people finished and freed up seats. The run shop quite efficiently here. It’s small inside and looked like a seafood grocer more than a restaurant. In fact, people came by…

Nha Hang Hong Hanh 3

This place must be good to have three restaurants named after it, right? Well, I couldn’t disprove that theory. It was pretty darn good. Exactly what I was looking on a desolate cold night. Everything looked closed, that was, if it were open, it had nobody in it. This was the case for Hong Hanh 3 which our hotel recommended. We were pretty skeptical walking in. They had about five restaurant staff sitting around talking among themselves. Not a good sign. But once they realized we weren’t lost or wanting…

May’s Crab House

No visit to Maryland is complete with out some Maryland blue crabs. Correction, a lot of blue crabs, steamed and smothered in Old Bay seasoning. And I don’t mean like a dozen. They talk bushels here in Maryland and in this particular case, it was all you can eat, which can mean multiple bushels depending on your group. There are several all you can eat crab places around the D.C. area, so make sure you read up on them. Some aren’t locally sourced. May’s happens to be. The restaurant was…

Final Runs

What I forgot to put into these posts are the trips to the onsen. Our hotel was equipped with one and we even went to the one in the Vail hotel. And that’s because I wanted to go every day after boarding. Twice wasn’t so bad right? Good enough to keep the pain and aching away in order to get in three full days on the mountain. It was storming once again so the top was once again off limits. However, there was no need to. We kept to the…
